Highland Grange is situated within the Landsker Borderlands. The Normans invaded South Pembrokeshire in the 11th century and built a frontier of castles, known as the Landsker, across the county.

Llawhaden castle nearby is one of a chain of strongholds built by Anglo-Norman settlers in the 12th century. The word Landsker may be of Norse origin signifying Frontier, and its Borderlands include communities with a remarkable and rich history, with castles, strongholds, early settlements and churches varying radically in design.

The guesthouse is also within 1 mile of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This is known as the inland or secret waterway - unimagined tranquillity. This is the Daugleddau a tidal estuary formed by the confluence of the western and eastern Cleddau rivers.

There are many walks including from Carew Castle and the restored Mills at Carew and Blackpool. Superb views across the estuary at Llanshipping Ferry and a perfect spot for bird watching.

From the opposite side explore Picton Castle gardens and guided tour of the wonderful house. Lawrenny Arms pub situated on the riverside, a quiet place from which to enjoy the river and watch boats go by.

At Cresswell Quay you can relax at the Cresselly Arms which is just yards away from the waters edge, and enjoy some of the many waterbird species which feed in full view.
